Uniden 40-Channel CB Radio (PRO505XL) Review
I drive every week around 180 miles each way and often in the early hours of the morning, and has often thought to myself, I need to have a CB installed to hear what the traffic around me has to say especially the truckers. However, I never had a good reason until recently I was embarking to go on a hunting trip off in the woods with other hunting friends who owns CBs. So decided it was time to buy me one and got this little unit the Uniden 40-Channel CB Radio (PRO505XL).
Installing the Uniden PRO505XL
When I received the Uniden PRO505XL, I noted something that I liked it has no frills attached and required no training as the majority of the latest CB models is designed with the latest technology and for one I did not need it. This is a basic radio and received with it the radio, microphone hook, mounting bracket, knobs, and mounting hardware.
Installation of the unit was simple and required no added tools to get the job done. It looks great in my truck and most of my friends said that it looks like standard equipment. I coupled it with a cheap magnet mount CB antenna kit that has a 17 foot coax cable base. With this small radio, I have received great reception while on the road and the majority of users commented that I am coming in good and could hear me three miles away while on the hunting trip in thick trees, bushes, and the mountains.
What I love about the PRO505XL
What is not to love about the PRO505XL it is small and compact only 4.75 inches wide and 6.75 inches long making it one of the smallest radios and works well in limited spaces. The layout of the radio is simple as it only has two knob controls, one switch, and three buttons “see” said it is basic and easy to use.
The microphones standard and comes with a four-pin connector and equipped with a CB/PA switch allowing you to use it as a public address system or CB. The radio comes with the basic channel nine buttons for emergencies and easy to use. The volume control also works as the on/off switch and the squelch knobs situated below the volume control and works great, offering you to listen only to stations desired with great signal strength.
The microphone is a basic one, provides enough clearance for others to hear you, and not muffled. Another nice thing about the Uniden 40-Channel CB Radio (PRO505XL) is the digital display and offers you with TX (transmit), RX (receive) indicators, and a four bar graph that presents signal strength when in receiving and transmit mode.

Some customers would have still liked the ANL function and used by mostly beginners that need a small basic radio to use while traveling or in need of a PA system.
One more customer said that he has been a user of CBs for 10 years and always makes sure that he has the Uniden 505 available as a backup to use in his second vehicle.
